SUPER STAGE 2023
Super Stage is a summer theater program at LACS open to students going into grades 3 through 8 in September. This summer we are doing Finding Nemo Jr. Students that are interested in participating should sign up on May 30th in the main lobby at LACS from 6-7:30pm.

Middle and high school students from Mrs. Seymour’s Technology Club traveled to Potsdam April 28th, to compete in Clarkson University’s annual Spaghetti Bridge Competition. Students collaborated in teams to follow the engineering design process in order to build a bridge made only from spaghetti noodles and hot glue. They were among 28 middle and high school teams participating in the event to create the strongest load-to-weight-ratio bridge.
The competition was created to provide opportunities to increase awareness and encourage students to consider entering the field of engineering. This friendly competition allowed students the opportunity to visit the Clarkson University campus, meet current engineering students, and challenge themselves.

Students in the Business and Entrepreneurship Class are determining costs to make various products that could go on the Mobile Maple Food Truck for this summer. After creating spreadsheets to determine costs and profitability of their ideas, students had to try their hand at baking and making some of their ideas...and of course, taste testing them too.
Meet the Candidates Night
The HS Select Chorus and Spanish Club are hosting a K-12 Game Night fundraiser for our upcoming New York City trip in May. It will be held in the Upper and Lower Gyms on Friday, April 28 from 6-8:30pm. All students and families are welcomed! It is $3 admission at the door for students and there is a $12 maximum for families. There will be pickleball, board games, open swim, badminton, volleyball, and many other games! We hope you can join us on Friday, April 28 for this awesome game night!

Throughout the morning, several of our north country neighbroing districts were the victims of prank emails containing bomb threats. None of these threats have turned out to be credible. *We have received no such communication at LACS. * If the District were to receive a threat, we would follow our safety plan and our community would be notified immediately regarding our protocol.
As always, the safety of our staff and students is our highest priority. We strive to work collaboratively with our communities to keep everyone safe. I would like to remind our students, staff, and families that if you see anything out of the ordinary in or around our school buildings please inform us. This is an important way that can help keep our communities safe.

Throughout the day today, 3-30-23, several North Country and Central NY school districts were the target of "swatting" reports. A swatting report is a harassment technique that involves calling in an emergency police response against an innocent target. No such event has occurred at any of the schools who have been targeted.
According to law enforcement, these identical messages did not target any specific building or person(s). However, this act is a crime and the person(s) who initiated these calls will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
As always, the safety of our staff and students is our highest priority. As a precaution, families may notice an increased police presence at LACS and area schools following these unfounded threats. I would like to remind our students, staff and families that if you see anything out of the ordinary in or around our school buildings please inform us. This is an important way that can help keep our communities safe.

The LACS Mobile Maple Lab is possible mostly through money Jim Mullen, former LACS student, and his wife have gifted to us. We have been able to invest in our CTE programs through their generosity and vision to offer robust experiences through science and technology. Between the creative efforts of Mr. Phelps, the CTE teachers, and Mr. Hlad, our students now have this amazing learning space!
Join us on Thursday, March 23rd for our Music in our Schools Month Concert. This performance will feature the Middle and High School Bands under the direction of Mrs. Kelly Kilcer and the Middle and High School Choruses under the direction of Mrs. Elizabeth Zehr. The concert will be open to the community and will begin at 7pm. If you are unable to attend, you can tune in to our live stream to watch the performance. On Saturday March 16th, LACS students and their advisors traveled to the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES to compete in the Central Region Substate Leadership Development Contest. Over 300 students in competed in 12 different events. The top two from each event advance to the state finals in May in Buffalo.
Anna King placed first in the Sr. Creed Speaking Event
Riley Gillette placed second in the Jr. Extemporaneous Public Speaking Event.
Both ladies will be advancing to the state finals in May.
