FEMA to conduct nationwide emergency notification test on Wednesday, Oct. 4 On Wednesday, Oct. 4, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA).. The test alerts, which will appear on cell phones, televisions and radios, are scheduled to begin at approximately 2:20 p.m. The test will be loud to catch your attention. We are letting you know about the tests because it will happen during school hours. Please be aware of the following information: The test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts will be directed to all consumer cell phones and will include a notification with a vibration and an alert tone. The message will say “This is a test of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” The EAS test will be sent to radio and televisions and will last for about 60 seconds. The message will say: “This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 14:20 to 14:50 hours ET. This is only a test. No action is required by the public.” The tests are being held to make sure the systems are effective for warning the public about emergency situations. In case the Oct. 4 test is postponed because of widespread severe weather or other significant events, the backup testing date is Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Middle School Open House Reminder Tuesday, September 19th 7:00-8:30 pm Parents and guardians are invited to an Open House at Lowville Middle School on Tuesday, September 19th. The program will begin at 7:00 pm. We will use an open format allowing parents to stop in to meet each of their child’s teachers at their leisure. Parents should report to their child’s homeroom to pick up a copy of their child’s schedule and to sign in. Each teacher that a family visits will highlight their class on your child’s schedule. If your child gets five highlights, they can place their schedule sheet in their grade level box outside the Middle School Office for a chance to win a gift certificate. Teachers will be available to meet parents, show them their classrooms and share course expectations. We look forward to seeing you on September 19th!
