From the Principal
We made it! With just about one month remaining in the 2020-2021 school year, we collectively have persevered in navigating the best and safest way of educating our students during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Our success is the result of the entire Lowville community doing their part so our students could continue on with their educational journey.
It was not easy. There were pockets of students and staff having to quarantine due to exposure or due to contracting the COVID-19 virus. With that, we learned new terms not associated in the day-to-day learning environment. Terms such as quarantined, isolation, contact tracing, symptomatic, asymptomatic, deep cleaning, social distance, temperature checks, pods and so many others. Even with COVID, we made it!
As the year progressed, activities we thought impossible became a reality. Our athletes proved how much they wanted to play by wearing masks, sanitizing and practicing in cohorts. Our musically talented students were recently rejuvenated with the ability of singing with their friends as an entire group. They are even hosting their annual Dessert Concert in June. The band has been rehearsing as a larger group. Believe me, it is so wonderful to hear the echoes of playing and singing again in the auditorium. Again, this was made possible due to their willingness to do what they had to do to play. They made it!
Now to recognize those who will be leaving the classroom and halls of Lowville Academy.
The Class of 2021 has been a class who weathered the choppy waters of the COVID-19 storm. They kept their goals, established a short 13 years ago, in focus. For some, there were times when they felt like giving up; but, they stayed the course with support from their parents, teachers, coaches, counselors and friends. They met the challenges of hybrid learning and for that, they are the epitome of our youthful heroes. You made it!
Finally, to our master teachers who are moving on to the next chapter of their lives, we owe you for all you’ve done to educate, encourage and guide thousands of students through the years in the high school of Lowville Academy. They are Ms. Jeanne McLaughlin, Ms. Sherry McHugh, Mrs. Carol Kozin, Ms. Karen White, Mr. Thomas Griffiths, Mr. Mark Komondor and Mr. Kenneth Kozin. If my math is correct they represent 224 years of educational excellence. So to all of them, I say “You made it!”
So as we begin to wrap up the 2020-2021 school year, we should all be proud because “We made it!”
Yours In Education,
Brian E. Finn
