MIDDLE SCHOOL

FROM THE PRINCIPAL ...

Dear Parents, Students and Community Members:

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!  I hope everyone has had an enjoyable and relaxing summer.  I am excited to welcome back our returning 7th and 8th grade students and their parents and want to extend a special welcome to our incoming 6th grade students and their parents.

I encourage parents to take time before school starts to talk with your child about the upcoming school year and to set goals for a successful year.  Reflecting on past experiences and developing a plan for future success will help ensure a positive experience this fall.

Here are a few questions you can ask your child that may help you start the reflective process for them:

  •  How did you think your school year went last year?

  • Did you achieve everything that you wanted to?

  • What areas do you need to improve on?

  • Were you respectful to your teachers?

  • Did you get along with your classmates?

  • What else could you have done to make your experience at Lowville Academy better?

Another conversation to have with your child is regarding his or her involvement at Lowville Middle School outside of the classroom.  While our focus is always on the academic achievement and growth of our students, we do realize the importance of our students’ social and emotional development as well.  We understand the need to balance students’ academic development by providing opportunities for enriching extracurricular activities outside of the classroom.  Research shows that when students are involved in their school’s extracurricular activities they perform better academically.  Please encourage your child to participate in our extracurricular sports, clubs and activities throughout the school year.

Lastly, I want to encourage our parents and community members to become involved at school by joining our Middle School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).  Our MS PTO is currently welcoming new members for the 2022-2023 school year.  Our PTO has not formally met in the past few years, and I am looking forward to reviving this group this year so that we can have more parent input and collaboration.  Please reach out to the MS Office at 315-376-9010 if you are interested in joining this year.

In closing, I thank you for your partnership and look forward to working with you this fall to support your child’s academic and personal growth.  Please do not hesitate to call our office if you have any questions or concerns.  Best wishes for a successful 2022-2023 school year!

Sincerely,

Scott D. Exford, Middle School Principal
